It was very popular on [[Playsite]] a few years ago, but has become less so, perhaps because it gives one of the players too big an advantage, but also because Hex players have become less focused on the centre in the opening. This is probably one of the most [[Analysis|analysed]] opening lines.

Now [[Red (player)|Red]] may play at the star. The two pieces at d5 and e5 are a great help for connecting to the [[Top edge|top]], and the [[outpost]] at the bottom right helps to connect to the [[Bottom edge|bottom]]. The position is very difficult for [[Blue (player)|Blue]] at the moment.
